With the advent of liberalization in the early 90s, India opened the doors of her economy to foreign players. This influx of global players into the Indian market and their emphasis on using state-of-the-art technologies created a spurt in the demand for contemporary engineering courses in the suburbs of India's commercial capital Mumbai. | |
Never one to ignore the demands of the industry and academic fraternity, the Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal, with prior approval from the University of Mumbai, the Government of Maharashtra, the Directorate of Technical Education and the All India Council for Technical Education, decided to establish a benchmark-setting engineering college. The Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering, named after Shri Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi, was born. Our parent body SVKM has provided additional building space of 5267.9 sq.m in the adjoining building of the campus. Thus the total built-up area now increases to 16,276.9 sq.m |
A+ graded engineering college under the University of Mumbai system. Offers degrees in Production, Electronics and Telecommunications, Electronics, I.T., Computer, Bio-Medical and Chemical Engineering.
Established in 1994 under the leadership of the Sree Vile Parle Kelavni Mandal and Principal Dr. D.J. Shah.
Also host to the IEEE Brainwaves chapter established by the Electronics Engineering batches graduating in 1998 and 1999. These dedicated IEEE members organise several fun activities including field trips to industry (first one being to Bangalore in 1998), and inter collegiate contests like the 360 degrees extravaganza.
The college has a strong intra-mural sports culture with football (soccer) and cricket being the major sporting events, along with annual chess, table tennis, and other sports. Chemical Engineering and Electronics Engineering departments have sported a healthy rivalry since the founding days of the college.
The college also has a healthy cultural activity center, with students organizing and participating in several cultural festivals across the city.
Affiliated to the University of Mumbai, the College at present conducts the following courses of study in the B. E. Degree with an intake capacity (2007-2008):
1. | Chemical Engineering | 60 seats |
2. | Electronics Engineering | 60 seats |
3. | Production Engineering | 30 Seats |
4. | Bio-Medical Engineering | 30 Seats |
5. | Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering | 60 seats |
6. | Information Technology | 60 seats |
7. | Computer Engineering | 60 seats |
